The only AI courses for Builders
One for beginners, one for Claude Code, one for AI agents. Two are completely free.
I took 10 AI engineering courses as a builder. Not to get employed, mainly because I'm sick of telling Claude Code to "just fix it," and it never works.
Three made the cut, covering three areas: what I'd give a complete beginner, Claude Code, and going deep on AI agents. Two of them are completely free.
Honest up front: DataCamp is sponsoring this, but they give you the first chapter of every course free, and I'm showing you a completely free competitor too. This is for builders — solo devs, indie hackers, vibe coders. If you just want another corporate job, probably not for you.
PICK 1 — DataCamp's Associate AI Engineer for Developers
My absolute top pick, and the one I started on myself. It's not just a course — it's a full structured path: nine courses, three projects, ~26 hours, ~87,000 people through it already. You start on the OpenAI API and climb to vector databases and LangChain — essentially building agents.
The part I actually care about: it's all in-browser. No local setup, no Python install, no API key wrangling. For a beginner, getting over the hurdle of just starting is the number one struggle. It's also multi-provider on purpose — OpenAI, Hugging Face, LangChain, Pinecone — so you're learning concepts, not one company's buttons. And there's a real certification: a timed exam plus a graded Python project, included in the subscription.

PICK 2 — Claude Code 101 (free)
Claude Code is popping off — everyone's using it, and you ought to know how to get the most out of it. 12 lectures, ~90 minutes, genuinely hands-on: CLAUDE.md files, sub-agents, MCP, hooks — the real stuff, taught by the people who build the tool.
Straight with you: it's a Claude course, and you need a Claude Code subscription to make the most of it. More "free to enroll" than free to finish. Do it on Anthropic's Academy or on DataCamp with that same subscription.

PICK 3 — Hugging Face's AI Agents course (free)
The most advanced of the three. It goes deep on one slice — agents — it's genuinely model-agnostic, and you're hands-on the whole way in preconfigured Spaces. If you're living and breathing building agents, this could genuinely beat DataCamp for you. The catch: it assumes you already know Python and understand LLMs. Do it as a second or third course.

The other seven?
Coursera/edX: heavy theory, ship nothing.
Udemy: marketplace lottery.
DeepLearning.AI: world-class but no single path.
Cloud certs: locked in.
Databricks: solo devs will never use it.
Raw YouTube: tutorial hell.
In summary — DataCamp for beginners, Claude Code 101 to go deeper on the tool everyone's using, Hugging Face for agent builders.
