Hey,

Quick one, but a wild one.

If you opened Claude today you'd have seen it: Fable 5 is currently unavailable. Pulled. After about 72 hours of being live. And the reason is the US government.

Here's the full picture.

Where Fable came from. It launched right after Claude Mythos — supposedly the best cyber security AI ever made, so capable Anthropic won't release it publicly. Instead they spun up Project Glass Wing: running Mythos against the latest software so partner companies can patch the bugs it discovers before anyone else gets it.

What Fable actually is. Not a separate model — it's Mythos, nerfed. Same brain, safeguards bolted on top. Anthropic confirm it themselves: ask Fable 5 something dangerous (think "help me hack X") and it silently hands you off to their weaker 4.8 model, which refuses. The raw model apparently wouldn't.

Why it got pulled. Citing national security, the US issued an export control directive suspending all access to both Fable 5 and Mythos 5 — first outside America, then everyone within minutes. Their stated worry: someone found a way to jailbreak the safeguards and expose the raw Mythos underneath. Anthropic are downplaying it ("minor, previously known vulnerabilities") but quietly admit the part that should worry you: perfect jailbreak resistance isn't possible. They can't guarantee a fully uncensored model can't be unlocked.

My take (speculation, take it how you want). I can't find anyone online who's actually pulled off something crazy with it. What I can see: Anthropic getting more attention than ever, people upgrading to 20x Max plans to use Fable, record paying users and recurring revenue — right as IPO rumours swirl. "Best model in the world, too dangerous to exist, banned 3 days after launch" is also an incredible marketing story. I'm not saying it's staged. I'm saying I'd watch the higher-level game, not just the headline.

Could be national security. Could be hype before a float. Could be both.
